Alvin Smith, M.D. ‘64, F.A.C.P

Alvin E. Smith, M.D. ’64, F.A.C.P. is director for medical education at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach and clinical assistant professor at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Early in his medical career, he was chief of the Department of Medicine at the US Army Hospital in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Smith has been honored with numerous awards including the Heroes in Medicine Award from the American Medical Association; the Humanitarian of the Year Award from Halifax Hospital Medical Center Foundation; the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Civic League of Volusia County (Florida); numerous teacher recognition awards; and being made an honorary life member of the Florida division of the American Cancer Society. In 1987, Smith retired from the US Army Reserves with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
