Eduardo de Marchena, M.D. ’80

Dr. Eduardo de Marchena is an internationally recognized cardiologist and a Professor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. Currently he is the Associate Dean for International Medicine and Medical Director of the International Medicine Institute. He is also Director of Interventional Cardiology, and Assistant Director of the Fellowship Training Program. During his tenure at the University, Dr. Eduardo de Marchena has spearheaded key programs for the Heart Transplantation and Interventional Cardiology unit, has served as Chief of the Division of Cardiology, Chairman of the University of Miami Medical Group and was appointed Interim Chairman of the Department of Medicine. He is widely published in various areas of cardiovascular medicine and as researcher; his work has resulted in several patents and patent applications in percutaneous cardiovascular devices. His commitment to education is evident in the numerous medical education presentations, symposiums and conference in all areas of Cardiology throughout United States, Europe, Latin America and Caribbean. Additionally, Eduardo de Marchena has been recognized by the Cuban Medical Society, the Iron Arrow Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha for his contribution to the medical field. He was recognized with the American Heart Association’s Cor Vitae Award and also the Merit Award Visiting International Professor in several international universities.
