The John K. Robinson Fund
John K. Robinson, M.D. was the associate dean for student affairs at the University of Miami School of Medicine for many years. During his tenure, he wore many hats, ranging from admissions interviews to counseling students through personal problems. To honor his legacy the John K. Robinson Fund was established in support of medical student grants and scholarships. 85% of donations supports medical scholarships and 15% supports travel grants to deserving students who present their research at conferences all over the country.
The success of this worthy endeavor relies completely on your generosity. As alumni of the medical school whether you give back because of the beneficial and meaningful experience you had or to express your gratitude for the scholarship support you received as a medical student, we hope you will continue your support of scholarships.
The Medical Alumni Association
Every alumni gift makes a difference, whatever the size; it is needed and appreciated by the School and the Medical Alumni Association. The Association’s mission is to provide opportunities for alumni to continue to be part of the life of their alma mater. Alumni gifts sustain many student and alumni initiatives that bolster alumni/student relations, enhance medical education and community relations and ensure that current students have the same wonderful opportunity for learning and success that you had.
Stethoscopes for Students
A symbolic gift extends beyond its monetary value. Such is the case with a gifting program introduced in the fall of 2015 by the University of Miami Miller School’s Medical Alumni Association. When the 200 new medical students come to orientation, each will receive the gift of a stethoscope. This much-used tool of the medical profession will be a continual reminder that an alumnus/na or faculty member from the UM Miller School of Medicine made an investment on the student’s behalf. Please make a gift of $250 today to our future physicians.
Estate and Gift Planning
By naming the Miller School of Medicine as a beneficiary in your will or trust, you can make a difference in helping the School continue its important and life-changing mission of quality education, research, patient care, and community service for years to come.
A bequest in your will or trust allows you to fulfill your philanthropic goals in the future, allowing you to retain full use of your assets during your life. You will also help minimize your taxable estate and simplify the probate process, thereby benefiting your heirs. A bequest is easy – just ask your attorney to amend your existing will or trust, or if you don’t have a will, now is a good time to have one prepared. A bequest to the Miller School of Medicine can be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your residual estate or trust, or a contingent bequest and it can be unrestricted or restricted for a purpose you desire.
