Alex J. Mechaber, M.D., Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education, has been appointed to serve as a member of the prestigious Step 1 Committee of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), a three-step exam for medical licensure in the U.S.
With an abundance of enthusiasm and several reminders of their new responsibilities, the Miller School of Medicine’s Class of 2012 accepted their doctor of medicine degrees and contemplated their futures as they exited the BankUnited Center on the University of Miami Coral Gables campus on May 12.
Second-year student Marissa Orenstein is the new student president-elect on the national board of the American Medical Women’s Association. Elected to the post by her medical student peers at AMWA’s 97th Annual Meeting in Miami last month, she is slated to become student president of the organization dedicated to advancing women in medicine and improving women’s health at its 2013 annual meeting.
Medical alumni from around the country converged on the Miller School campus and the famous Biltmore Hotel—original home of the University of Miami’s School of Medicine—on February 10-12 to take part in Medical Alumni Weekend 2012. The event, which celebrated the Miller School’s past, present, and future, drew a record-breaking 1,500 medical alumni, students, friends, and family members.
Freshmen at the Miller School were officilly welcomed into the profession of medicine at the 12th Annual John G. Clarkson Freshman Pinning Ceremony, which included a keynote address by the ceremony’s namesake.
